Ministry of Land Management Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) is about to propose another project on the Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development Phase III to improve the living standard of people through allocating land for agriculture and building a house.

This proposing project will spend about USD100 million, according to Mr Rithy Ratanakcheysith, Deputy Director of Social Land Concession Department of MLMUPC during the interview with Construction and Property Magazine on 5 May 2020.

On 13 March 2020, MLMUPC held a meeting on final results of the last World Bank’s mission to Cambodia. The meeting had touched on a possible proposal on the Land Allocation for Social and Economic Development Project Phase III.

Ratanakcheysith said that the third phase of the project has about USD100 million budget from the World Bank. It will spend 6 years starting later whereas the location to implement has not yet come to any decision.

Ratanakcheysith stressed that there was three purposes of Lased III: 1) Community’s land registration for indigenous peoples in order to protect their land, 2) the use of Commune-Sangkat lands for long terms to ensure a clear cut between private and public land, and 3) finding potential lands to provide to poor people who exactly do not have land.

The land allocation project for social and economic development plays an important role in improving the lives of the people by providing land for housing, farming and public land for the benefit of the community to properly set up their community.

According to a report of the General Department of Housing, the LASED Phase I (2008-2013) spent USD11.5 million allocating 14, 126 hectares to 46, 976 families. While, LASED II (2016-2021) cost USD25.06 million of World Bank credit and 1.8 of national budget allocating 17, 042 hectares to 5, 141 families within 14 locations in 5 provinces including Kratie, Tbong Khmum, Kompong Chhang, Kompong Thom and Kompong Speu province.

All three phases of the LASED program have been being implemented by cooperation of MLMUPC and Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries and the secretariat of National Committee for Sub-National Democratic Development.(This news came from Construction-Property.com)
