Siem Reap remains Cambodia's leading tourist destination but continues to lack foreign visitors

Siem Reap has once again seen the hustle and bustle during the New Year holidays after a long period of silence due to the epidemic crisis. Siem Reap ranked first as the province that received the most tourists on August 20, fFollowed by the coastal provinces of Kep and Kampot. Battambang and Sihanoukville also welcomed more than 10,000 tourists on the same day.

According to tourism statistics released by the Ministry of Tourism on August 20, 334,391 tourists visited resorts across the country. Among them, there were 331,836 national guests and 2,555 foreign tourists.

According to the same tourism statistics, Siem Reap ranks first as the province that welcomes more than 45,000 tourists. There were 301 foreign tourists, while Kep province came in second with more than 37,000 tourists. Kampot province is in the third place with more than 350,000 tourists.

Battambang province also has a similar number of tourists to Kampot province, nearly 35,000 people. Separately, there are 6 provinces that received more than 10,000 tourists on August 20, including Pursat, Preah Vihear, Kandal, Koh Kong, Ratanakkiri and Kampong Chhnang provinces. According to tourism statistics of the Ministry of Tourism, said that other provinces are receiving less than 10,000 tourists, while the province Oddar Meanchey, Banteay Meanchey, Kampong Chhnang, Prey Veng and Svay Rieng provinces do not record the presence of foreign tourists.

Please be informed that the government has set a five-day Khmer New Year holiday from August 15 to 21, 2020. Top Sopheak, spokesman for the Ministry of Tourism, recently confirmed to the media that 557 tourist resorts in the capital and province to receive national and international tourists in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health on 5  days off.There are 255 natural, cultural and historical sites, and 219 potential sites that are not yet registered with the Ministry and there are 83 community-based tourist attractions.(This news came from Thmey Thmey.com)
