At the ceremony to review the National Road No. 5 Improvement Project on July 22, 2019, Senior Minister Sun Chanthol said that the National Road No. 5 

Improvement Project has a total length of 366 km in Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang and Banteay Meanchey which is a project under a 

concessional loan from the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency in Cambodia plans to spend about $ 500 million. The 

construction work is divided into three main parts, including the north, the south, and the middle, with the expansion of two existing national roads. The four-

lane track is 23 meters wide and 304 km long, replaced by AC rubber and central park.

This road has five total length of underpass roads, 62 km length, 4 tracks and 23 meters width, the central garden and also has an expansion of the old bridge and constructing new bridges on National Road No 5 in total 80 places as well.

In particular, plans to upgrade the National Road No. 5 north (Battambang-Serei Sophorn) was started from Battambang to Banteay Meanchey with a total length of 84.74 kilometers and was estimated to cost about US $ 143.04 millions and completed about 51%.

The road construction project is divided into two packages: the first package constructed by the Tekken-Taiyo JV Group, 46.27 kilometers (23.92 km bypass of Battambang town) and The second package, constructed by Daiho-Asanuma JV Group, is 38.47 kilometers (9.34 km of Sisophon Circle) and technical supervision by KEI-OCG-KCI Joint Venture Company in association with KCEC and TANCONS11 was inaugurated on 26 March 2018 under the presidency of Samdach Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo HUN SEN, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the construction took 36 months.

This section of the road, ASEAN Highway 1, can increase export-import and provide a potential highway for the Cambodian economy, especially to reduce 

traffic accidents and traffic congestion. In addition, people on the street will have a better life through the development of investment and tourism 

development.

This is an ASEAN highway connecting the west of Cambodia, leaving the Thai border to Phnom Penh and heading to the Cambodian-Vietnamese border through National Road 1.

Secretary of State of the Ministry of Industry and of Labor, Heng Sok Kong, said that the government plans to set up an industrial park along the National Road No. 5 along the road, which is an important way of integrating Cambodia as well as Cambodia's integration with other countries in the region.

"It is the most important route to linking the transport of goods between Thailand and Vietnam through Cambodia so that Cambodia can extract more value by establishing an industrial park along the road," he said.(This news come from Propertyarea.com)
