Cambodia Compass report, 19th May - Since the number of Covid-19 infections has been steadily declining, officials in Phnom Penh announced yesterday that the capital will be virtually free of Red Zones as of today.

According to Deputy Governor Keut Chhe, Phnom Penh City Hall will hold a meeting on Friday to discuss reopening markets, but only for the sale of necessary products.

According to Deputy Governor Nuon Pharoth, the Red Zone in Stung Meanchey III is now only part of Trea 4 and Damnak Thom II & III villages that have not yet been tested for Covid-19.

“Any workers (in Red Zones) who have not yet been tested should do so in order to prevent Covid-19 from spreading,” Pharoth said. He went on to suggest that everyone in the Red Zones should quarantine themselves and remain at home.

Pharoth recommends seeking medical care as soon as symptoms such as a fever, sore throat, or shortness of breath appear.

According to Meanchey district deputy governor Dy Roth Khemrun, the main goal of having tested is to transform Red Zones into Yellow Zones in accordance with Phnom Penh governor Khuong Sreng's orders.

According to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, Chak Angre Health Centre, Bak Touk High School, Boeng Trabek High School, or Sopheak Mongkul Primary School, anyone who has had contact with a positive Covid-19 patient can report to the local authorities and get tested at the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital, Chak Angre Health Centre, Bak Touk High School, Boeng Trabek High School, or Sopheak Mongkul Primary School.

Two new factory outbreaks have been recorded in the provinces of Kampong Chhnang and Takeo.

According to the Kampong Chhnang Health Department, employees at the Horizon Outdoor (Cambodia) Co Ltd in Kampong Tralach district tested positive for Covid-19.

Six villages in the districts of Boribo, Samaki Meanchey, and Kampong Tralach have been closed to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to other areas.

According to Dr Nuth Sinath, director of the Kampong Chhnang Provincial Health Department, the new cases are from former employees of a factory in Kandal province's Ang Snuol district who started working at Horizon on February 20.

“We've been discussing whether or not to close Horizon Outdoor temporarily or take further action with the district authorities and other relevant officials,” Sinath said. The decision will be made public later.”

The Takeo Provincial Administration reported yesterday that 48 new cases of Covid-19 infections had been discovered, the majority of which were caused by garment workers at the Sunbo factory in Bati district.

According to officials, factory employees and tenants who come into contact with patients must have regular medical check-ups at least twice a day and must be quarantined from family members by staying in a private room.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health recorded 345 new cases of Covid-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in the Kingdom to 22,889. One of the new cases was imported, and the others were linked to the February 20 Community Event.

According to the ministry, two more people have died from Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 156.

A total of 1,337 recoveries were made, bringing the total number of recoveries to 14,343.
