[Compass Real Estate Platform - May 26] BANGKOK: Thailand reported that its first COVID-19 discovery in India, locally transmitted, had been detected, announcing that its national vaccine plan would be formally implemented next month.
Thirty-six cases of COVID-19 from India had been detected in a camp of construction workers in Bangkok by the Ministry of Public Health. Of those, 21 are Thai, 10 are from Myanmar and five are from Cambodia, said the Medical Science Department Head, Dr Supakit Sirilak. In an attempt to avoid the spread of variety, the government has baned all non-Thais from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal.
3,481 new cases of coronaviruses and 32 additional deaths were reported by Thailand on Friday. Since the outbreak began, their total of confirmed cases has now grown to 123,066, of which 94,203 have had an outbreak since early April. 735 deaths have been reported, 641 since April. The COVID-19 Center for Situation Administration has announced a national state of emergency to help prevent the virus by the end of July.
The government also announced that its national vaccination campaign will begin on 7 June and that foreign residents may register. For weeks the government had been examining the inclusion of strangers and had said they would be last vaccinated.By the end of this year, Thailand hopes to be vaccinated by 70% of the country's estimated 70 million people.
Foreign immigrant workers, who number over 1 million, have been vaccinated separately by the Ministry of Labor, Natapanu Nopakuna, Deputy Speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Some of China's 150,000 citizens who live there have already been vaccinated by Thailand. Thailand has received millions of vaccine doses from China. Around 200,000 foreigners, mainly professional and retired from Australia, Japan, Europe, the USA and elsewhere. Last year, Thailand largely contained coronavirus cases with border closures, mandatory quarantines and contacts actively traced.
This devastated their profitable tourism sector, but kept most of the pandemic at bay until the beginning of April. Then the rise in central Bangkok, which started in high-end evenings, quickly spread as people could travel on a national holiday in mid-April. In the last few weeks a partial lockdown in outbreak containment, especially in Bangkok and prisons, has made some limited progress.
Building workers' camps were recently turned into another cluster. Bangkok has 409 building camps with 62,169 people. The figures are Thai, 26,134 and migrant workers, 36,035. Roughly 87% of the recent cases in Thailand were of the first coronavirus found in the UK, says Supakit.
