Nearly 30 years of Cambodia-Japan economic relations and development cooperation, from 1994 to July 2022, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has approved a total of 148 Japanese investment companies in Cambodia with a total investment of nearly 3 billion US dollars. This was confirmed by H.E Sok Chenda Sophea, Minister Delegate to the Prime Minister, Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia on the occasion of a recent meeting with the Japanese investment delegation.

For more than three decades, Japan has made significant contributions to the development of Cambodia, both in terms of aid and investment, and Japan is among the countries that are Cambodia's major investment and trade partners. In fact, over the past 30 years, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has approved a total of 148 Japanese investment projects with an investment capital of nearly 3 billion US dollar.

In the first eight months of 2022, the Council for the Development of Cambodia decided to allow Japanese companies to invest in three new projects with a total investment of 6.4 million US dollars.

The main investment partners who have invested in Cambodia are China, South Korea as well as Japan. Japan is also among other countries that are actively involved in contributing to the social and economic development of Cambodia. Looking at the economic relationship and development of Cambodia-Japan development operations for nearly 30 years, the CDC has approved 148 Japanese companies to invest in Cambodia with a total investment of 2.850 million US dollars, which can create a lot of jobs for the people and promote Cambodia's economic growth. In the first eight months of 2022, the CDC approved three Japanese companies to invest in Cambodia with a total investment of 6.4 million US dollars.

In a recent meeting with a delegation of Japanese investors organized by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), H.E Sok Chenda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Secretary-General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, highly appreciated the participation of JETRO which always cooperate with the Council for the Development of Cambodia to promote and attract Japanese investment to Cambodia with proud results. He also briefed investors on the importance of the recently promulgated Investment Law of the Kingdom of Cambodia to promote and attract quality investment to deepen the regional value chain and global through a plus strategy. The new law will benefit investment groups in Cambodia, such as coordination, guarantee and protection, investment incentives and maintenance.

Through the meeting between H.E Sok Chenda Sophea and the group of Japanese investors, he highly appreciated that it will further enhance the good bilateral relations between Cambodia and Japan, especially to attract more Japanese investors to invest in Cambodia, which is a factor to boost bilateral trade to another level.

In fact, the trade volume between Cambodia and Japan in the first seven months of 2022 amounted to more than 1 billion US dollars, an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2021. The goods that Cambodia exported to Japan amounted to 667 million dollars, while Japan imported goods to Cambodia in the amount of about 470 million dollars.
