The 148-kilometer route connecting Sre Ambel district and Khemarak Phoumin city will be renovated, with a length of 122.9 kilometers with two lanes and another of 25.1 kilometers with four lanes.

The project will cost a total of US$78.3 million, with about US$65 million coming from a concessional loan from South Korea through the Economic Development Cooperation Fund of the Republic of Korea, and US$13 million coming from government funds. Meanwhile, ILSUNG & HANIL Joint Venture is the construction company, while KCI & KECC Joint Venture is in charge of the technical inspection.

This route is part of ASEAN Highway 123, which runs from Cambodia to Thailand and connects the Indochina Peninsula's eastern and western halves in Dawai, Myanmar. Four special economic zones, including Koh Kong SEZ, Suoy Chheng SEZ, Kirisakor Koh Kong SEZ, and Ratana SEZ, as well as the Kirisakor tourist area, are located along NR 48.

The renovation will shorten travel times and lower transportation costs, as well as boost regional economic development, particularly among neighboring countries.
