Compass Cambodia report, September 2 - A total of 7,715 companies have registered their businesses through the new online business registration system, representing a total investment of about $3 billion, with construction and real estate firms accounting for nearly a third of the total, as of August 24.
According to a report released on September 1 by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, construction firms accounted for 25% of total investment value, or US$750 million, while real estate companies accounted for 16%, or US$450 million.
Aside from these two sectors, there were three other large-capital sectors: automobile export and import (16%), manufacturing (14%), and finance and insurance (8%).
The Online Business Registration system, which was launched in June of last year, is a new government initiative aimed at improving Cambodia's competitiveness and enhancing the investment environment. This system automates all of Cambodia's business registration processes using information technology.
