Compass Cambodia report, August 31 - Sun Chanthol, Cambodia's Minister of Public Works and Transport, stated in a Facebook live broadcast on the 30th of this month that the Chinese government has contributed over 3 billion dollars in loan assistance to Cambodia for infrastructure development.
He listed a long list of Cambodian infrastructure projects for which China has provided loans, including National Highway No. 3, No. 57, No. 58, No. 6, No. 8, and others.
Minister Sun Chanthol added that China is Cambodia's major aid donor for road and bridge development. Cambodia has received loans and aid for road and bridge development from Japan, South Korea, the Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank, in addition to China.
He stated that the Cambodian government treats them equally as long as they want to assist the country prosper. Some countries have previously alleged that Cambodia had received excessive Chinese help and was overly reliant on the Chinese government. However, it takes 3 to 5 years or possibly longer for Cambodia to apply for aid or loans from these countries. Cambodia may miss out on growth prospects if we wait much longer.
