Compass Cambodia report - From 23 September onward, national road 5 Battambang-Serey Sophorn section and the Battambong city detour road were opened for public purposes.
By 2022, 2023 and 2024 respectively, the three others are on track to finish.
The remaining sections are under construction, including Prek Kdam – Pursat and Pursat, Battambang, according to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT). Both are planned to be completed by 2022 and 2023.
MPWT is bidding for a construction company for the section between Serey Sophon and Poi Pet and is therefore scheduled to complete the road construction in 2024.
The NR5 refurbishment is 366 km long, connecting it to the northwest of Kompong Chhnang, Pursat, Battampang and the provinces of Banteay Meanchey.
The route is extended to Asphalt Concrete (AC) with a width of 23m and will be extended to four lanes. The project is undertaken by the Japanese Government with a loan of US$500 million.
