Cambodia Compass report, 10th June - The first drips of oil in Cambodia were deposited at the Win-Win Monument in Phnom Penh's Chroy Changva neighborhood so that future generations might see the country's progress.
On the 22nd anniversary of the conclusion of the war that brought about national unity, the Kingdom declared its first drop of oil in the country on December 29, 2020.
Defence Minister General Tea Banh said at a ceremony conducted yesterday at the Win-Win monument that the oil will be kept so that the people may recognize the government's accomplishment.
"December 29, 2020, was a historic milestone and emblem of Cambodia's successes that public officials, the armed forces, and Cambodians had been waiting for for years," he stated.
"I truly hope and expect that ministries and institutions will continue to provide proof and historical documents, which are the fruits of Prime Minister Hun Sen's win-win policy, so that young people can study," Gen Banh added.
He claimed that Cambodia's oil may provide revenue to help the country's economy.
KrisEnergy, based in Singapore, is drilling for crude oil in Cambodian waters in the Gulf of Thailand's Block A of the Apsara area.
The business had warned there were still "substantial worries" that it wouldn't be able to continue operating as a going concern, implying that it would have to shut down operations due to a lack of production in its Cambodian project.
