On the morning of June 6, 2024, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, inaugurated the Kampot Multi-Purpose Port, which was completed in the first phase at a cost of about US$140 million.
"This port will be another important artery for Cambodia's maritime transport and will improve trade and exchange activities, as well as boost the economy in Kampot province and the development of Cambodia's social affairs. The Kampot Multi-Purpose Port is considered to be another deep-sea port in Cambodia and a modern and significant port to complement the functions of the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and the Phnom Penh Autonomous Port," the Prime Minister expressed.
Please be informed that Kampot Multi-Purpose Port is located in Kilo 12 Village, Koh Touch Commune, and Boeng Tuk Commune, Bokor City, Kampot Province. It was approved by the Royal Government in 2005 and by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport in 2012. A total area of 207 hectares was owned by Kampot Port Co., Ltd.
His Excellency Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, said at the inauguration ceremony that the main physical infrastructure to be built in the first phase is a port with a length of 450 meters and a 60-meter width; a container area with a total area of 55,000 square meters; an 8,800-square-meter warehouse; a goods inspection building with an area of 1,330 square meters; and an administrative building. As for the port border, it is the property of the state, which the Royal Government has determined to grant the right to use in a total area of 678 hectares, along with the construction of a 2,600-meter-long, 170-meter-wide, and 10-meter-deep navigation canal that can allow ships with a capacity of 10,000 tons, or equivalent to 666 TEU, to dock.
H.E. added that the port's infrastructure is also planned to be expanded, with the second and third phases planned to be built with a water depth of up to 13 meters, which will allow 20,000-ton vessels to enter and exit.
