Singapore to donate Covid-19 vaccine to Cambodia

According to the Ministry of Information of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Singapore, one of the most developed countries in ASEAN, has decided to contribute US $ 5 million to purchase the COVID-19 vaccine and distribute it to some poor countries, including Cambodia. This is according to a joint press release between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Singapore.

An English-language press release issued on December 4, 2020 states: "As part of our support for the multilateral vaccination policy and the equitable distribution of the vaccine, Singapore will contribute $ 5 million to the Global Vaccine Pre-Acquisition Mechanism (COVAX) which will help 92 low- and middle-income countries get vaccinated through the COVAX mechanism."

Separately, Lok Chumteav Dr. Aor Vandin, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health, has already stated that while Cambodia is a member of the International Immunization Alliance (GAVI), the Ministry of Health has been working closely with the World Health Organization as other countries are also considering proposing equitable vaccines to Cambodia, called non-binding expression of interest for the Covid-19 vaccine to Covax facility of GAVI.

It should also be noted that although some countries and companies have successfully developed and tested the COVID-19 vaccine, so far the World Health Organization has not officially recognized any vaccine yet.
