Cambodian Garment Industries Are Preparing For The Sustainable Future And Attracting More Investment

Garment manufacturers in Cambodia are now adopting sustainable energy practices in order to save energy, increase production efficiency, and react to consumer demand for environmentally friendly clothing. According to a recent news release, Switch Garment, in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) and the Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC), began a series of energy audits in garment factories around Cambodia in August. The Switch Garment energy audits will assess the energy intensity of garment manufacturers' facilities, identify cost-cutting and production-optimization opportunities, and inform clean energy investment by factories as well as factory training needs to promote sustainable energy practices. Faced with pressure from overseas clients to reduce environmental impacts, 30 companies have joined the Switch Garment initiative so far, with another 20 expected to join later this year.

As more garment manufacturers embrace sustainable energy practices, Cambodia is expected to attract more investments in the near future, accelerating the country's economic recovery.
