Compass Cambodia report, August 30 - The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MISTI) has approved 20 new ISO, IEC, and UNECE standards for usage in Cambodia, with seven of them aimed at improving construction and electrical safety in homes and buildings. On August 27, MISTI released these new standards during the National Standards Council's (NSC) 24th video conference meeting.
Three new construction industry standards have been released, focusing on non-pressurized plastic pipes and polyethylene pipe for drainage, clean water, and sewage systems. Additionally, four new standards will tighten rules on the use of electrical equipment and home appliances that can cause skin damage from radiation.
The implementation of international standards as a national standard, according to MISTI Minister HE Cham Prasidh, is for the benefit of the economy, trade, security, and investment attraction. MISTI also adopted four new international regulations to increase domestic electricity security at the National Standards Council's 23rd meeting. Until recent, the National Standards Council has adopted international standards as national standards on a total of 988 standards.
