Compass Cambodia report, August 16 - The Sihanoukville Autonomous Port saw a 455% increase in net profit in the first half of the year, as it considers expanding its infrastructure to meet rising service and economic demand.
According to the port's Second Quarterly Report, which was released on August 12, the January-June net profit was 14,075 billion riels (about US$12.48 million), up 455% year-on-year.
The port's active continuous business activities, as well as its intentions to extend new infrastructure development, have contributed to the increase in revenue.
The port is currently constructing a new port terminal with a length of 350 meters and a depth of 14.5 meters to accommodate larger ships. The port is projected to cost US$218 million and will be funded by a Japanese government ODA loan. The port extension is scheduled to be completed in 2023, as planned.
