The 38 roads in Siem Reap with a total length of about 100 km, which are now open for construction, will improve the lives of the people in the province through clean roads, easy to travel, as well as beauty and clean environment.
On the morning of November 30, 2020, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, said that the construction of 38 roads in Siem Reap City, Siem Reap Province, will change in about one year from now, with more beautiful roads, the province will have more potential for tourism, and people will be able to earn more when the COVID-19 crisis subsides.
He added that in 2022, Siem Reap may organize many big events such as Angkor Sangkran to attract tourists to visit Siem Reap, and then they will see that Siem Reap really has good roads which are easy to travel.
PM Hun Sen also hoped that Siem Reap would continue to be a potential tourist destination after Covid-19 passed. He hoped that our Siem Reap people would benefit from these infrastructure. For visitors who had visited Siem Reap before and felt miserable with bad quality road, will be shock when they see good road in more than a year. And if Covid-19 is declining, Samdech Hun Sen may consider to re-celebrate of Angkor Sangkrant in 2022. Then tourists will see Siem Reap as a city with good roads after Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville as well.
Residents of Svay Dangkum commune, Siem Reap city, expressed their happiness for the project to build 38 roads, which will help improve the beauty of the city, as well as no more traffic congestion during major national festivals. Because every year, as long as there are festivals, traffic jams occur for many hours. They also thanked the head of government for taking into account the travel of the people in this tourist destination.
It should also be informed that these 38 roads in Siem Reap city with a total length of more than 100 kilometers will cost about 150 million US dollars, which Prime Minister Hun Sen approved the budget on September 4, 2020. The construction period of the project is set at 13 months, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.
