PM Hun Sen presides over the groundbreaking ceremony of 38 roads in Siem Reap

Infrastructure construction of 38 road project with a length of more than 100 Kilometers and rehabilitation of Siem Reap river in Siem Reap City, Siem Reap province have opened ground-breaking ceremony this morning, November 30, 2020 under the high presidency of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Regarding the project to build this road, on September 4, 2020, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, announced in a cabinet meeting to drop the national budget about 150 million US dollars to build and improve 38 roads in Siem Reap province.Samdech Techo Hun Sen emphasized that the decision to build 38 roads in Siem Reap is not only to improve the infrastructure system in Siem Reap, a famous tourist city of Cambodia, but also a contribution to provide employment to people during facing with COVID-19 crisis as well.

The rehabilitation of these infrastructures opens a new page in the history of Siem Reap. Samdech Techo stated that this decision shows the attention of the head of the Royal Government in turning the city into a rich cultural and historical city. This will be more attractive to tourists and more investment in line with the development policy of the Royal Government.

Please note that through a detailed study of the structure of these 38 roads are divided into four types, including the first type is a road in the area where tourists travel a lot and have a good pavement to be repaired with 5 cm of Asphalt Concrete. Second type is the roads where located in a tourist area and has a bad pavement. It has to be rebuilt with 20 cm thick reinforced concrete and add 7 cm of thickness of Asphalt Concrete above. The third type, a non-tourist road, will be rebuilt with 20 cm thick of reinforced concrete. The fourth type is the road between the cities, the road section with good part will be repaired, paved with asphalt concrete(AC), and the road section with poor quality will be rebuilt with 25 cm thick of reinforced concrete.

The project to improve 38 road infrastructure in Siem Reap will include drainage, rainwater, sewage, flood protection system to prevent flooding in Siem Reap sidewalks and streetlights, as well as other considerations, such as cable networks, transmission systems, sidewalks for the disabled, bicycles roads, parking lots, Traffic signs and diagrams, security camera systems, gardens, tree planting, road decoration, etc., and the construction period 13 months is scheduled to end by the late of 2021.
