Cambodia urges Shanghai city administration to encourage more investors to invest in Cambodia

Neang Samreth Komar, Consul General of Cambodia in Shanghai, China, requested the city administration to encourage its investors to invest more in Cambodia after the situation of Covid-19 ended or eased.

The proposal was made on the afternoon of November 26, 2020, when he paid a courtesy call on Zong Ming, Deputy Governor of Shanghai. The meeting focused on cooperation in investment, tourism, scholarships for Cambodian students and Covid-19.

Samreth Komar told Fresh News that during the meeting, he asked the Shanghai City Administration to provide scholarships to Cambodian students and encourage more Shanghai investors to invest in Cambodia in the future. This is because Cambodia and China have just signed a free trade agreement (FTA).

He also brought a message from the head of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, and Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, to visit the Governor and Deputy Governors, as well as the entire administration of Shanghai.

Samreth Komar confirmed that when Covid-19 is relieved, the Cambodian Consulate General in Shanghai will continue to hold a seminar on golden opportunities to inform the city's investors to seek investment opportunities in Cambodia.

The Consul General of Cambodia also told the Deputy Mayor of Shanghai that Cambodia ranks No. 1 in Asia and No. 3 in the world (out of 166 countries) as the country with the best Covid-19 epidemic control status and impact. This is a ranking based on Senegal's Le Bureau de Prospective Economique report on the Coverage Severe of Covid-19.

The Deputy Governor of Shanghai congratulated the Royal Government of Cambodia for controlling  Covid-19 cases. She also confirmed to Samreth Komar, promising to examine the possibility of providing more scholarships to Cambodian students and encouraging investors in Shanghai to invest more in Cambodia in the future.
